Tolly was born in 1997 to Catherine and Tomas at Nteko village found in central Uganda. His disability is traced to witchcraft where his mother was bewitched by a co-wife with whom they shared a man (POLYGAMY). Toly was poisoned as a tiny baby in the hopes of killing him, but the attempted murder was a failed attempt. Tolly came out of it with severe brain damage. For 24-year-old Tolly, whose muscles are too weak to support his body which is life-threatening to him. Tolly was born with spinal muscular atrophy, which progressively weakened his body muscles. Tolly must be reliant on a wheelchair and full-time caregivers for most routine tasks. Unfortunately, Tolly doesn’t talk, doesn’t walk, he is unable to do anything but sit there surviving on God’s mercy.
As a person of disability, he has experienced many barriers like being left home alone, stinking during easing. He has seen a lot in over 24 years as someone with a disability including an inner ear disorder. And eventually, he lost his sense of hearing. His early days were bad but his current situation is even worse. Two years ago he was provided a wheelchair but it broke due to carelessness and now he crawls in muddy areas. He is actually having worse moments receiving no care only from JFM which is not daily. When you look at Tolly you surely wipe your eyes as his life is not pleasant at all. It is truly a sad story.
JFM took the family rice and sweets today, we left a gospel tract and ministered to the family members. We tried to add some sunshine to an otherwise sad state of affairs. We are unprepared for such.
