Thirty-six-year-old Rossetti is not sure of her children’s future. Each day that passes she gives glory to God since she has learned how to make it every day for survival. Rossetti loves her children so much and works hard to make each day count. What hurts Rossetti is that she cannot even find a space to cultivate food for her children. Rossetti lives at Langa village in Wakiso district. Her family consists of six children which makes it hard for her to feed them on her own. When JFM arrived at her home the youngest child was found lying in the same place for hours since he lacked the strength to stand up due to hunger.
Many people today go to bed hungry and poverty is the leading factor behind this in Africa and Uganda in particular. Uganda faces a monster food crisis. If the world stands by, people will simply starve to death. “I wake up very early in the morning to go search for wild food in the forest and sometimes I come back empty-handed,” Says Rossetti. “Many times wild animals scare me and I return home with nothing, I lose my senses when I look at my children starving.” She added. “they get food with sauce once in the blue moon.” Starvation is lurking on the doorsteps of hundreds of thousands of children. This crisis has no cause, but poverty is a big contributor. In Uganda, many people lack food right now with over 850,000 malnourished children. “We live in fear every day,” says Rossetti.
So far JFM has reached over 25 families with food relief assistance and is working to help more starving families with food. Food distribution is critical to fighting hunger and JFM reaches many people with food, often when no one else does. JFM is there to care, minister Gods’ love, and hope for a better tomorrow. What an amazing day Mathiew. What may seem small is the world to a hungry person. These kids seem so happy.
