The Silent Crisis Of Teenage Motherhood In Bweyale, Kiryandongo District.

About 317 kilometres from Kampala lies Bweyale in Kiryandongo District, a diverse community that is home to the Alur, Lugbara, Iteso and Karamojong people. Behind its vibrant cultures and poor people, however, is a heartbreaking crisis that continues to grow silently every day – the alarming rise in teenage pregnancies and teenage motherhood.

Many girls between the ages of 12 and 16 are becoming mothers before they have had a chance to enjoy their childhood, complete their education or discover their purpose in life. This devastating reality has left families, local leaders and well-wishers deeply concerned about the future of these young girls and their children.

Even more heartbreaking are reports that some pregnancies result from abuse by relatives, an act of incest that leaves these young girls emotionally wounded, traumatized and trapped in cycles of poverty. Many of them suffer in silence because they fear speaking out or have nowhere to seek protection.

One such girl is Harriet, a 15-year-old teenager whose life has changed forever. Harriet already has a young child in her arms while carrying another unborn baby. At an age when she should be sitting in a classroom and dreaming about her future, she now struggles daily to care for herself and her child.

Harriet’s life is a constant battle. She worries about where the next meal will come from, how she will provide for her children and whether she will ever get another opportunity to continue her education. Her story is not unique; it represents the struggles of many forgotten girls in Bweyale.

JesusFedMe (JFM) recently visited Harriet and extended a helping hand by providing food supplies and a small cash gift of UGX 20,000 to ease her immediate needs. Though this support brought hope and relief, the challenges she faces remain enormous.

The reality is that hundreds of vulnerable children, teenage mothers and struggling families need urgent support. They need food, medical care, counseling, educational support and protection from further abuse. Most importantly, they need hope and people who are willing to stand with them during their darkest moments.

Today, we invite compassionate donors and friends around the world to join hands with JesusFedMe. Your gift, no matter how small, can help rescue a young girl’s future, feed a hungry child and restore dignity to vulnerable families. Together, we can give these girls a second chance at life and remind them that they are not forgotten.

About Author

Mathiew Saba

Saba Mathiew:  I was born and raised in Uganda, where my journey of learning and service began. I attended Galikwoleka Nursery School, where a strong foundation for my academic life was laid. I later participated in New Eden Christian Primary School for my primary education, a place that nurtured both my character and my love of learning.

For my secondary education, I joined Agape High School, where I completed my Ordinary Level studies. I later advanced to C.T.R, where I completed my Advanced Level education. These years shaped my discipline, resilience, and passion for communication and service.

I pursued higher education at Ndejje University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. My university training equipped me with strong skills in writing, communication, storytelling, and media engagement, which I continue to apply in my professional life.

Currently, I am employed at JesusFedMe.com (JFM) as a Logistics Specialist and Article Author. In this role, I support the coordination of ministry activities while also writing impactful stories that reflect the mission, compassion, and work of JFM. Additionally, I serve as a translator for JFM, proficient in Luganda, Kiswahili, and English, helping bridge language gaps and ensure clear communication with the communities we serve.

Through my work, I remain committed to service, communication, and supporting the mission of transforming lives through love, compassion, and faith.
