Meet James, a young boy who is a student at school and a father figure at home. At only 12 years old, James carries responsibilities that many adults would struggle to bear. Before and after school, he fetches water, gathers firewood, cleans the home, and cares for his younger brothers and sisters while trying to keep up with his education.
James’ parents are still alive, but the harsh reality of poverty forces them to leave home every day in search of food or casual work. This means the children are often left alone, with James becoming the one they depend on for comfort, guidance, and survival. Childhood has come with burdens far beyond his years.
During one of JesusFedMe’s outreaches, James received a set of clothes. Everyone expected him to wear them with joy because his own clothes were old and worn out. Instead, he quietly handed the clothes to his younger siblings because they had almost nothing to wear. They were the ones he thought of first.
That simple act touched every heart at JFM. It revealed a rare kind of love—a boy who chose to go without so that others could have dignity. James did not think about himself. He saw the greater need and willingly sacrificed what had been given to him.
James reminds us that true greatness is not measured by age, wealth, or position. It is found in a heart that puts others first. His kindness and selflessness are a beautiful example of the love that God calls us to show one another, even in the midst of hardship.
At JesusFedMe, we are humbled to meet children like James. While we continue sharing food, clothing, and the hope of the Gospel, we also pray that God will strengthen this young boy, bless his family, and open doors for a brighter future. James’ story is proof that even in the darkest places, love can shine brightly.
