kids throng wanting food
While JFM always begins with the gospel—sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ—there is a unique peace and order during that time. People gather quietly, sit on the ground or on benches, and listen attentively. Many are touched deeply by the Word, some raise thoughtful questions, and we take time to answer and guide them to the truth. That moment feels like a holy atmosphere, where hearts are open, the Holy Spirit moves, and many respond joyfully to receive Jesus.
But the moment the food distribution begins, the situation dramatically changes. Hunger takes over. The peace that was present during the preaching quickly disappears as people, especially the children and elderly, rush toward the food bags. They worry they may miss out, and the pressure of not knowing when their next meal will come drives many into a panic. Mothers with children push through the crowd, kids cry loudly, and the atmosphere becomes confusing. It’s not out of disrespect, but out of deep desperation.
The chaos makes it extremely hard for us to distribute food in an orderly and fair way. We sometimes see people grabbing at the rice sacks or cutting queues. Even with volunteers and planning, the pressure becomes intense. We’ve had to calm people down, pause the distribution, and even step back to reorganize. These are moments where we need God’s grace and patience the most, because our goal is not just to feed bodies, but to show the love and compassion of Jesus.
Despite the challenges, we keep going. We pray before every food distribution, asking God for wisdom and peace. We’ve learned to adapt by organizing smaller groups, involving local leaders, and identifying the most vulnerable to serve first. But above all, we trust that even amid the chaos, God is reaching hearts. Feeding the hungry is not just a service—it’s a holy mission. And we believe every bag of rice given in love plants a seed of hope in someone’s life.
