Today’s update from the field is about two elderly individuals finding solace in Christ. Preaching the good news to older adults who believe salvation is only for the young poses a significant challenge. These individuals may have realized the importance of committing their lives to Christ later in life, possibly regretting the time they spent on other pursuits during their younger days.
One such person is Mr. Peter, who embraced Jesus through JFM’s door-to-door evangelism. He had felt neglected until JFM appeared at his doorstep. Discovering vulnerable individuals living alone without any assistance in their daily activities is disheartening. One wonders if they have children or grandchildren, considering the conditions they endure.
Most older adults require the presence of supportive young families. Fortunately, some well-wishers extend their help. However, many find themselves in need without anyone to assist them, except for the few reached by JFM.
I often hear these elders say, “Why is this happening to me? Aging is a difficult journey.” Some used to attend church, but the gospel they heard failed to provide hope in the face of their bodies’ rapid decline. We must repent for not sharing the good news with the elderly simply because they have reached old age. They, too, need Jesus, especially since many have recognized the mismanagement of their time and sought redemption from their past mistakes.
JFM consistently reaches out to confused and frail elders. We spend time with them, attentively listening to their stories, reading the gospel and Psalms, praying alongside them, and reminding them of the hope found in Christ’s resurrection. We inform them that we are indeed drawing closer to the day of our Lord’s return.
