Kalanzi Enock was a man of stature and experience, living in the bustling city of Kampala in the early 1970s. He had achieved much in his life, and to those who passed by, he appeared as a figure of wealth and status. For many, such a man would be intimidating to approach, especially for someone bringing the gospel of Christ. I, too, shared that hesitation. Rich men, I thought, often seem to be engrossed in their world, unaware or indifferent to the needs of the spirit. But something stirred within me, urging me to step beyond my fears and greet him.
One day, as I was doing door-to-door evangelism, I walked past his house and saw Mr. Enock sitting in his compound with his wife, enjoying breakfast together. Despite my initial apprehension, a voice within my heart kept whispering, “Go and greet them. Tell him Jesus loves him, and then leave.” Gathering my courage, I composed myself and approached them.
With a smile, I greeted them, explaining that I was there to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. To my surprise, they welcomed me warmly. There was no barrier of wealth or pride; instead, they listened attentively, their hearts open. I shared with them about the love of Jesus and how He came to save us all, regardless of our status or achievements.
As we spoke, I could sense something stirring in Mr. Enock. His heart was being moved, and by the time we had finished speaking, he had decided to give his life to Jesus. It was a beautiful moment—a moment when a man of great earthly stature embraced God’s eternal love and grace.
Kalanzi Enock’s story reminds us that no one is beyond the reach of God’s love. Thank you, Jesus. This wasn’t me, but You, LORD JESUS, for sure.
So wonderful to read this story of love and forgiveness. JFM is doing a wonderful ministry, and so thankful to you Mathiew for reaching out. So good.
