There was a time when I finally understood something uncomfortable but true. I am a sinner. Not just someone who makes small mistakes, but someone who owes a debt I could never repay. The Bible says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of GOD” (Romans 3:23 KJV). That includes me. Every wrong thought, every selfish decision, every moment I chose my way instead of GOD’s way added to a debt that kept growing.
And the payment required was not small. Scripture tells us plainly, “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23 KJV). The cost was my life. No amount of good works, kindness, ministry, or effort could erase what was already owed. Imagine standing before a judge with a bill so large that you know there is no possible way to pay it. That was my spiritual condition. Guilty, indebted, and without hope on my own.
But then comes the greatest news ever given to humanity. Jesus stepped in and paid for everything. Not part of it. Not most of it. All of it. “But GOD commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8 KJV). On the cross, Jesus took my debt, my punishment, and my sentence. When He said, “It is finished,” the account was settled forever.
And here is the part that still amazes me. I have a receipt. The resurrection is proof that the payment cleared. The empty tomb is Heaven’s declaration that the debt has been paid in full. Colossians 2:14 says He was “blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us… nailing it to his cross” (KJV). My record of debt was nailed there with Him.
That is why we do what we do. Every meal shared, every prayer offered, every life touched through JesusFedMe happens because someone first paid a debt none of us could afford. We give because He gave. We serve because He saved. And through your generosity, hungry people not only receive food for today, but they also hear the message that their spiritual debt can be canceled, too.
Thank you for being part of something eternal. Because of your support, more people are hearing that Jesus still saves, still provides, and still hands out receipts marked “Paid in Full.”
