Greetings, beloved,
I’d like to share the story of Bruhan, a 13-year-old we fondly call “Bull.” He was forced to drop out of school in June 2023 after only reaching primary two (P.2). Although he loved school, his circumstances drove him to leave. He has since endured harsh child labor, exploitation, and even physical and emotional stress.
Bruhan lives with his grandmother in a small rental home. They rent a tiny piece of land where they grow food for themselves and sell a few crops to buy basic necessities like salt and soap. Sadly, they once owned a larger piece of land but lost it due to a land dispute his grandmother couldn’t fight. This family lives next door to us; they’re our backyard neighbors. Bruhan’s grandmother and other grandchildren live in a small house and often rely on our support. They fetch water from our well, attend church services on Sundays, and visit our home pharmacy for medical needs. The younger kids even come to our children’s home for meals and playtime. We’re thankful to GOD and JFM for making food, medicine, and clean water available to our community, just as we’d hoped.
When I first met Bruhan last year, I helped him find a job in Nansana-Wakiso at a chicken hub, where he earned 60,000 shillings a month (about $25), along with meals and accommodation. He hoped to save 1.2 million shillings for a car mechanic course at a local garage. After six months, he managed to save 360,000 shillings, but he spent it on hospital bills for his grandmother and to help his younger siblings in the village. The low wages and challenging work conditions eventually drove him back to his grandmother’s home, and he has since come to me, seeking support to achieve his dream of becoming a mechanic.
As the oldest child, Bruhan shoulders a lot of responsibility for his family. Recently, he injured his leg while trying to carry a heavy load on his bicycle. I am praying for him and trusting that GOD plans a better future for this young man. I’m also profoundly grateful to JFM for enabling us to offer support in need. While I haven’t fully committed to his ongoing care, I hope we can someday help him reach his career goal.
I am thankful for the support team at our church, which has offered comfort to this young boy. Above all, I thank Jesus for His sustaining grace, which holds us all through every trial.
Thank you to our beloved donors. Shalom.
