Something unusual caught our attention while we were giving out food to a large crowd. In the middle of the line stood a young boy twisting his stomach in a strange but rhythmic way. It wasn’t just once—he kept doing it repeatedly. His face was unreadable—he was not smiling or crying, either. We couldn’t immediately tell whether he was full of joy or if he was being a bit stubborn and playful. But whatever it was, his movement stood out among all the hungry children waiting quietly.
The boy’s twisting dance drew laughter from a few around him, even as others continued to stretch their hands for food. It reminded us at JFM that even in moments of need, children find ways to express themselves through joy, restlessness, or habit. We may never fully understand what was happening in his little heart, but his presence made that food distribution unforgettable. He left a mark on our team, again showing us how unique every soul we encounter is.
