Understanding the term "Born Again"

An elderly woman stands outside a mud-brick building holding a basin with a gospel tract and food packets.

Being "born again" is a term used in Christianity to describe a spiritual rebirth. This concept comes from Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus in the Bible. Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3, ESV). This rebirth is not a physical one but a spiritual transformation.

To be born again means to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, which results in a profound change in your heart and life. It signifies leaving behind an old way of living and embracing a new life centered on Christ. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."

This transformation involves repentance from sin, a turning towards God, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, who guides and empowers believers to live according to God's will. It’s a personal and intimate relationship with Jesus that brings forgiveness, peace, and eternal life.
