A Sunday Delivery God Led Us An Elderly Couple Crying For Help

First and foremost, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to God for always leading us to the right people. Every day, we meet people whose stories remind us that this ministry is not about our wisdom, strength, or power. It is about God's grace, His guidance, and His unfailing love for those who are struggling. If it were not for Him, we would never find some of the people who need us most. All the glory belongs to Jesus!

For the first time in the history of (JFM), we conducted our food delivery on a Sunday. It was a special day, and in many ways, it felt as though JFM was taking church services from one home to another. Instead of waiting for people to come to us, we went to them, carrying food, prayers, encouragement, and the love of Jesus Christ. As we moved from home to home, we met people preparing to go to church, while others had no plans of attending church at all. But God had a special appointment waiting for us.

Our greatest point of interest that day was an elderly couple: Mr. Lusata Steven, aged 86, and his beloved wife, Alowu Beatrice, aged 81. Their story touched our hearts deeply. These two have walked through many seasons of life together, yet old age has brought challenges that are difficult to bear without someone to lean on.

The couple had only one child, who sadly passed away in 2011. Since that painful loss, they have never had another child. Imagine growing old after losing the only child you had, then reaching a stage in life when your body can no longer do the things it once did. For this couple, the years have brought not only grief but also physical struggles that make everyday living difficult. Their story reminds us that behind many closed doors are elderly people carrying burdens that the world rarely sees.

At 86, Mr. Steven is lame after breaking his leg, making movement difficult. His dear wife, Beatrice, aged 81, also struggles to stand properly because of persistent back pain. The very things many of us do without thinking—standing up, walking outside, preparing a meal, or carrying something—can become painful challenges for people in their condition. Growing old is already difficult, but growing old with pain, limited mobility, and the loss of your only child makes life even harder.

When JFM arrived, something beautiful happened. Despite her physical pain, Beatrice struggled to rise and make her way outside to see the strangers who had come to visit. And guess what? She smiled! That smile was a beautiful moment we will not easily forget. Perhaps she was surprised that someone had remembered them. Perhaps she was happy to see visitors at their door. Whatever was in her heart at that moment, her smile reminded us that even a small act of kindness can bring joy into a life that has endured so much pain.

We did not come merely to deliver food. We came to remind this precious couple that they are not forgotten. We prayed with them, committed their lives and struggles into God's hands, and shared the love that Jesus has called us to show one another. We also provided them with enough food to support them and a little cash to help them meet some of their immediate needs. We may not have been able to take away their physical pain or bring back the child they lost, but we could stand beside them, listen to their story, and remind them that their lives still matter.

As we left their home, we were reminded once again why door-to-door ministry is so important. Sometimes, the people who need the most help cannot travel to church, attend community gatherings, or go out looking for assistance. They remain in their homes, quietly struggling and hoping that someone will remember them. By going to them, we can discover these hidden needs, offer practical support, pray with them, and share the hope of Jesus Christ. Today, we thank God for leading JFM to Mr. Lusata Steven and his wife, Alowu Beatrice. We thank Him for the privilege of serving people who might otherwise remain unseen. Their story is a reminder that ministry is not always about standing behind a pulpit; sometimes, it is about knocking on a door, helping an elderly woman stand, sharing a meal, holding someone's hand in prayer, and bringing a smile to a tired face.

Jesus deserves all the glory! We are only vessels in His hands, and we pray that He will continue guiding us to the people who need His love. May He strengthen Mr. Lusata and his dear wife, comfort them in their grief, ease their suffering, and surround them with His peace. And may we never become too busy to notice the forgotten, too comfortable to care, or too proud to remember that every act of love is an opportunity to reflect the heart of Jesus.

We will keep going door to door, feeding the hungry, praying with the hurting, sharing the Gospel, and reminding people that they are not forgotten. We may not be able to change everyone's circumstances overnight, but with God's help, we can make a difference one family at a time.

To God be all the glory, honour, and praise!
