In the village of Mityebiri, two boys, James and Patrick, have surprised JFM ministry for their exceptional kindness and care towards their grandmother. Unlike many of their peers, James and Patrick start each day not by thinking of themselves, but by attending to the needs of Granny Irene, who is unable to walk or sit up. Before they head to school, these boys make sure she has food and water, ensuring her comfort. Their daily acts of love and service are a testimony to the kind of heart Jesus desires in His followers. The Bible teaches in Proverbs 20:11 that “Even a child is known by his deeds, whether what he does is pure and right,” and these boys exemplify that truth.
When JFM visited the family, they found Granny Irene living on the floor, but despite her difficult circumstances, she greeted them with a smile. Her joy seemed to reflect the care and love shown by her grandsons, whose service to her mirrored the teaching of 1 Timothy 5:4, which instructs believers to show piety at home and repay their parents and grandparents by caring for them. James and Patrick, though young, have embodied this biblical principle, living out their faith through their actions.
Impressed by their humility and devotion, JFM blessed the family with food and took time to pray with them. It was a powerful reminder of Galatians 6:9, which encourages believers not to grow weary in doing good, for in due time, they will reap a harvest if they do not give up. These boys are already sowing seeds of love, kindness, and service, and the Lord sees their good work.
As JFM prayed for this family, it was clear that God’s hand is upon them. Matthew 25:40 says, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” By caring for their grandmother, James and Patrick are not only honoring their family but also serving the Lord. Their example is a beacon of light in their community, showing that true greatness lies in serving others.
This was our first time to a see an older person being cared for. In Africa old people rarely get such opportunities and it hs been a full time job of JFM to show love to such people since no one loves such people.
